Our Partners in Motion

From generating media attention, hosting screening events, and convening COPD coalitions to disseminating materials and even driving traffic to the campaign Web site -- our partners are engaged, active, and working hard to spread the word about COPD.

Featured Partner Activities

  • The COPD Foundation partnered with Walgreens in the Tampa, Florida area to host 23 COPD  screenings in 11 locations -- one of the largest single COPD screening efforts conducted.   The events were held in participating Walgreens stores from August 11 through August 23, 2008.  The COPD Learn More Breathe Better® campaign poster was adapted to promote the events and campaign fact sheets were distributed.

  • The NHLBI and the COPD Foundation scored a home run, by teaming up with the Durham Bulls—a Minor League Baseball club in North Carolina—to host COPD Awareness Night at the Ballpark on August 25, 2008The awareness and screening event, was in part supported by the COPD Foundation through an unrestricted educational grant from Dey, LP.  The game drew more than 7,100 fans. Nearly 100 lung function tests were administered, thousands of COPD Learn More Breathe Better® fact sheets were distributed, and an on-field pre-game ceremony was held recognizing members of the North Carolina COPD Task Force for their efforts to raise awareness of COPD across the state. 

  • The Hawaii COPD Coalition sponsored its 2nd Annual COPD Education Day on September 22, 2008 in Honolulu.  Presentations focused on managing COPD through sleep, exercise, nutrition and medication.  Nearly 200 COPD patients and healthcare professionals attended the event, which was presented as a component of the Coalition's, Project SUCCESS--Spirometry-Urged Cessation through Counseling Education and Sustained Support.  In addition to the Education Day event, the Coalition partnered with Longs Drug stores to conduct a successful monthly in-store lung testing program from May through September, 2008. COPD Learn More Breathe Better® fact sheets were also distributed as part of this effort.
